ABOUT THE SONG: THE REFUGEE SONG (SEARCHING FOR THE DOLPHIN)
It seems to me that each generation faces the problem of the refugee.
War is perennial – waged constantly somewhere on the planet – usually a power struggle between competing ideologies or identities. Throughout the time of our existence peace appears only for moments; mere pauses before hostilities are renewed – like the change of ends in a tennis match.
VICTIMS ARE DISPLACED, MADE HOMELESS, CHILDREN, AND MOTHERS WITH FAMILIES WANDER FROM PLACE TO PLACE SEEKING PEACE AND SOLACE.
All they ever knew, all they believed crushed beneath the jackboot of the invader, or they are persecuted for a way of life or belief.
The tragedy of two world wars hung heavy in the air in Europe. Lines of refugees marching across the continent barely alive in the heart of civilisation seemed impossible, but it happened and the memory survived long enough for Europe to determine an end to wars in this continent. The impossible dream had become a necessity – it was about survival, but can it last?
